Sports for a Better Tomorrow
Using sports in schools to develop Life Skills in children!
In my experiences at schools in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand, while doing my Gandhi Fellowship, I observed firsthand the gap in structured life skills development for the children. I saw that these crucial skills were gradually developing, but it felt too slow, too unstructured.
Motivated to address this need, I introduced a tailored sports curriculum in these schools. I recognized how sports, with its inherent traits of team play, and discipline, could be a robust tool for children's physical, social, and emotional growth. I aimed, through this booklet, to methodically nurture the following life skills, as outlined by the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE):

-
Decision Making
-
Problem Solving
-
Effective Communication
-
Self-Awareness
-
Coping with Stress & Emotions

When I first embarked on this journey, my intention was to bring this intervention to five schools. The organization's ambition stretched this vision to 100 schools. But what truly surpassed our wildest expectations was the government's decision to implement our program in over 800 government schools in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, taking the reach of our effort far beyond what we initially imagined.
